BONANZA CREEK VACATION CABINS

Staying at one of our cabins is a great way to getaway in the mountains of Montana.

Our western furnished cabins sit on the edge of our working cattle ranch adjoining the Lewis and Clark National Forest. They are a combination of Montana style and comfort with a variety in size and price. We have a three night minimum so you can settle in and truly enjoy. Peace and quiet will always be a part of your every day life.

In the summer, you can go horseback riding, fish a little, hike on trails along the creek or up the mountain, enhance your life with equine life coaching, or explore the mountains on your own ATV. In the fall you can enjoy hunting on the Lewis and Clark National Forest. Whatever you do, come prepared to enjoy nature and life in the “middle of nowhere”.

We are located just off HWY 89 outside of Martinsdale in the heart of the Castle Mountains with an amazing view of the Crazy Mountains.

Riding in this big country with other good riders who love to ride is an incredible experience. Come and enjoy the freedom of riding in open, unspoiled country where for generations ranchers have tended to the land, sheep, cattle and horses. You’ll ride not only on the beautiful Voldseth ranch, but also on the vastness of the Helena Lewis and Clark National Forest. The views and the experience will stay with you forever.

Pioneer Cabin

Great for a group of 4 but it sleeps up to 6, one bedroom with queen sized bed, one bedroom with two twin beds and two trundle beds. There are two baths with showers and one claw foot tub in the main bedroom. Small kitchen with propane stove/oven and refrigerator. Rocking chairs are on the covered porch to enjoy the view and a barbecue to make cooking easy. This cabin is handicap accessible.
Cost is $300 a night.

Cowboy Cabin

Nice cabin for 4, but sleeps up to 6, one bedroom with queen size bed, loft with two twin beds, common space has queen size sofa bed. There is one full size bathroom with tub/shower. Small kitchen with propane stove/oven and refrigerator. Deck includes a table, 4 large rocking chairs and a barbecue.
Cost is $275 a night

Indian Cabin

Perfect for a couple, but sleeps up to 4. It has a living area with a sofa bed, one bathroom with tub/shower, and one bedroom with a queen bed. There is a very small refrigerator and microwave, but no kitchen. The porch has a table with 2 chairs and a tabletop barbecue. Enjoy the covered porch with rockers for a view of the Crazy Mountains.
Cost is $200 a night

The Bunkhouse

Ideal for those who want their own space. Sleeps up to 4 and is two separate bedrooms each with their own bathroom with a tub/shower, and a shared porch with rockers. The Mountain Man side has two twin beds, and the Prairie side has a queen bed. There is a shared refrigerator and outdoor barbecue, but no kitchen.
Cost is $200 a night for both sides or $125 for half

WHAT’S INCLUDED IN YOUR CABIN…

Amenities include all towels, linens, firewood, and plenty of parking. Kitchens in the Cowboy and Pioneer Cabins include small stove and oven, refrigerator, coffee maker, dishes, glasses, utensils, pots and pans.

DATES AVAILABLE FOR CABIN RENTALS

There is a three night minimum stay. The Pioneer Cabin, Cowboy Cabin and Indian Cabin are available June through November. The Bunkhouse is available June through mid October. PLAN YOUR TRIP…

CHECK-IN – is after 2:00 the day of your arrival. Please call 406 572-3396 in the summer and 406 572-3366 in the spring and fall a few days ahead to make arrangements for check in. If riding the afternoon of your arrival, contact us for an early check in.

CHECK-OUT – Check-out is by 11:00 on your departure date.

DEPOSIT – A 50% deposit is due at the time of booking with a 3 night minimum stay and can be made by credit card, Venmo, PayPal or check.

DIRECTIONS – From BILLINGS, follow your map to Martinsdale, at the T (before entering Martinsdale) turn west onto Hwy 294 for 12 miles. Turn right into Lennep (church, school and a few homes). From BOZEMAN, follow the map to Ringling, continue on for four miles and turn right onto Hwy 294 and go 15 miles, and turn left into Lennep (a church, school and a few homes). Follow the gravel road past the church for 6 miles and watch for Bonanza Creek signs. GPS does not always get you here. We are not quite 2 hours from Bozeman and 2 ½ hours from Billings.

WEATHER – July and August tend to be days of sunshine at 80—85 degrees F and little to no humidity and cooler evenings. June and September are cooler and unpredictable with possible moisture. June has beautiful wildflowers and lots of green grass. September offers gorgeous autumn days with those wonderful crisp cool evenings. You are in the mountains of Montana so come prepared for change as you might get a bit of everything in one week or one day. Please check weather.com for Martinsdale MT before packing.

MEALS – Start your day off right with a full breakfast at the lodge for $20, and order a sack lunch to eat at your leisure in the great outdoors for $18. If you prefer to fix your own, the Pioneer and Cowboy Cabins have small kitchens, and the Indian Cabin and Bunkhouse have small refrigerators, outdoor propane barbecues and microwaves.

CLOTHING – You will want to pack clothes that are easily layered and bring a jacket or sweatshirt for evening. For riding, bring jeans or riding pants, long and short sleeved shirts, and boots with a riding heel. We don’t require riding helmets, but do encourage them if you are used to wearing one. We don’t have any on hand, so please bring your own. We do have raincoats and a few sizes of boots you can borrow. Please check the weather channel for zip code 59053 before packing.

OPTIONAL GEAR – sunscreen, sunglasses, insect repellent, chaps, gloves, rain gear, flashlight, binoculars, camera and art pad.

AREA RESTAURANTS – There are restaurants in Martinsdale, Ringling and White Sulphur Springs.

GROCERIES, ICE, GAS ETC. – Buy up, fill up before you come. Depending on which direction you are coming from, there is gas and groceries in Harlowton, White Sulphur Springs and Wilsall, each 45 miles.

PETS – Please call ahead if you have a pet to see if that is an option. You will be charged for all damages.

CLEANING FEE – There will be a $200 fee if the cabin is not left tidy or there is damage. We do the normal cleaning (vacuuming, changing beds, cleaning bathrooms etc after you leave), but please be respectful in not tracking in mud, do your own dishes, clean out the refrigerator and don’t leave the cabin in disarray.

SOLAR POWER — We use solar power, so please limit your use of hair dryers, curling irons etc. Cabin heaters, water heaters, refrigerators and stoves are all propane. Please let us know ahead of time if you have a sleep machine or anything that requires power at night.

COMPUTERS, CELL PHONES, TVS — There is no cell phone coverage or television at the ranch. Wifi is only at the lodge where you can call or text. It’s a great idea to download movies or books before arriving.

LAUNDRY – There is a guest laundry on the back side of the lodge for summer guests only as the lodge is closed after mid September. We are on solar power so please just do laundry when necessary or when the sun is shining — open 7 am to 7 pm.

SMOKING – Smoking is only allowed on your deck or porch.

LIABILITY – The ranch is privately owned, and the owners are not responsible for accidents, injuries, or illnesses that occur on the premises. Owners are not responsible for loss of personal belongings or valuables.

BE RESPONSIBLE– Stay on main roads respecting private property, respect do not trespass signs and entry ways painted orange.

CANCELLATION POLICY – If cancellation must occur, 70% of the deposit will be refunded if that time can be rebooked. No cancellation within 72 hours of your stay.

FUN THINGS TO DO ON THE RANCH…

LIFE COACHING – If you have something in your life you would like to change, come and see how a horse can give you answers. June, who partners with the horse, is a certified coach through a highly comprehensive 2-year program based on gestalt. A private session at $200 is an investment in yourself and includes an hour with the horse and a half hour zoom follow up. (early June through mid-September, please book ahead of time). “Sometimes you find yourself in the middle of nowhere, and sometimes, in the middle of nowhere, you find yourself”.

FISHING – Enjoy the thrill of a feisty cutthroat, brookie or rainbow trout in one of our two small lakes near your cabin. Pick up a fishing license in Bozeman or Billings or apply for one online before coming.

HUNTING – The cabins are just a few miles from the Lewis and Clark National Forest which is accessible through the county road. There is no hunting on the ranch nor access from the ranch to public lands.

HIKING – For a good scenic run or walk, try the gravel/dirt roads where there is little to no traffic. There are also game trails where you may see deer and other wildlife. Please know that sometimes black bear are in the area, however they are usually non-aggressive if they see you first. We are at an altitude of 5800 feet and a steep climb up into the mountains where the air is thinner and it’s harder to catch your breath.

HORSEBACK RIDING – Want to really see the countryside, come and ride with us June 8 to September17 on one of our ranch horses. We recommend 4 – 5 days to fully experience the ranch and countryside on a horse.

With country as big as this, there is an endless variety of rides. Every day is a new adventure – climb a high ridge, meander through the woods along Bonanza Creek, canter across open country, or ride to an old homestead. Soak up all the beauty and tradition of Montana from the best seat in the world. The rides chosen for each day will vary with the weather, time of year, and preferences and abilities of the guests. We ride in all weather except a lightening storm.

All riders must be able to safely and confidently ride at a canter/lope outside an arena in open country. For those that are able, we are happy to pick it up a notch for a good gallop or two across the wide-open spaces.

Riders must be physically able to mount their horses. While we have a mounting block at the stable, on the trail, stumps, rocks and high ground are your only assistance. The weight limit for riding is 225 – 250# depending on your height, physical condition and riding ability. Pregnant women cannot ride. It is important for your enjoyment that you are physically fit.

Please let us know when you book or at least a month before your stay if you would like to ride and your preferred schedule. If cancelling a ride, please do so within 48 hours or you will be charged, unless the cause is weather related. We can usually add on rides once you are here.

4 hours of riding – $175 a person

If you aren’t in riding shape, please consider the 1-2 hour ride.

BIKING – Bring your own mountain bike and bike to your heart’s desire on dirt roads going up into the Lewis and Clark National Forest or down to Lennep.

MOTOR BIKING – Miles and miles of big country to see in the Lewis and Clark National Forest. Bring your own all-terrain vehicles or motorcycles and start riding from your cabin.

STARRY NIGHTS – Sit out on your deck at night and enjoy the beautiful night skies. The best time for seeing stars is around the time of a new moon, and you literally see a sky bursting with stars. But, if you can’t make it then, try for a full moon, now that’s a real treat.

R & R – Gather on the lodge deck with friends and family to enjoy that spectacular view of the Crazy Mountains, read a good book, catch up with the rest of the world on wifi, or enjoy a bottle of wine before dinner.

CASTLETOWN – At one time it was a booming silver mining town where Calamity Jane lived, now a ghost town. It’s about 12 miles on a gravel road, a beautiful drive in the Castle Mountains with a 4-wheel drive vehicle. https://www.montanapictures.net/castle-town-ghost-town-montanapictures-net/

NATIVE AMERICAN PICTOGRAPHS – They are prehistoric and in the Lewis and Clark National Forest. Need an all-terrain vehicle to get there and a Forest Service map.

BAIR MUSEUM – Our local museum of the Bair family mansion and livery. Native American, western history and art as well as many European antiques. It is located near Martinsdale, just 15 miles away. www.bairfamilymuseum.org
